BIRGET (dam by Mining), set all the fractions en route to victory in a $31,630 maiden special-weight race at Prairie Meadows on July 4, and  ROGERSVILLE (dam by Mogambo) was second by a nose in a Colonial Downs turf maiden special-weight in his July 26 racing debut.

His first-crop juveniles averaged $36,688, led by a $100,000 Barretts March colt and a $65,000 OBS March colt, while his second-crop yearlings already include a $45,000 Keeneland January colt.

His first-crop yearlings also made their presence felt in the sales arena last fall, led by Keeneland September colts for $100,000, $60,000, and $50,000, a Saratoga Preferred colt for $43,000, and a $40,000 OBS August filly.

A $3.3 million Keeneland September Yearling, multiple Graded SW and multiple G1-placed NEWFOUNDLAND is by the incomparable Storm Cat, who has at least 24 sons that have sired Grade 1 winners, out of 3-time Grade 1 winner Clear Mandate, by 2007 leading broodmare sire Deputy Minister, whose daughters have produced 147 SWs including 2007 Eclipse champions and classic winners CURLIN and RAGS TO RICHES. NEWFOUNDLAND’S first three dams are Grade 1 SWs, and he is a half-brother to $3.2 million yearling, stakes winner and sire FULL MANDATE and full brother to multiple graded stakes performer The Mighty Tiger.

In addition to running second in both the the $1,000,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) and the Suburban H. (G1), NEWFOUNDLAND won the Skip Away H. (G3) (defeating BOWMAN'S BAND, OFFLEE WILD, etc.) and the Canadian Turf H. (G3) for trainer Todd Pletcher.

NEWFOUNDLAND retired with 7 wins and earnings of $677,534. According to Brookdale’s Fred Seitz, “He looks like his $3 million price-tag. This horse has it all: a world-class pedigree; his yearling price speaks of his conformation and he was one of North America's top older runners at 4. We’re delighted to have him at Brookdale.”
